Lausanne, the fourth largest Swiss city is situated in the heart of Europe at 3h30 from Paris and Milan, on the shoreline of lac Léman.
It hosts the International Olympic Committee since 1915 and is the Olympic capital since 1994.
It is a renowned university centre with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technologies (EPFL), and the IMD business school.
For 20 years, Lausanne has been pursuing a policy of sustainable development and energy conservation. Having the Swiss label Cité de l’énergie since 1996, Lausanne was the first City in Europe with more than 100,000 inhabitants to be awarded the European Energy Award Gold (eea®Gold) label for the City’s pioneering sustainable energy policies, which have following three focal points:
+ increasing the production of renewable energy in new stations;
+ setting up innovative, high-performance installations to optimise energy consumption;
+ awareness-raising among consumers about energy conservation.
